New Book Series: “International Perspectives on Migration”

Springer Science+Business Media has launched a new book series: International Perspectives on Migration.

Publisher: Springer Science+Business Media
The Netherlands

Series Editors:        Professor Peter Li, University of Saskatchewan
Professor Baha Abu-Laban, University of Alberta

The series is edited by Peter Li and Baha Abu-Laban, two sociologists who are former editors of Springer’s Journal of International Migration and Integration.

The aim of the series is to publish original books that advance our understanding of international migration. Written by academic experts and policy specialists in the field of migration, the separate volumes will address a clear research question or theme, present critical analysis and will be based on sound evidence-based scholarship. The series will include monographs, multi-authored volumes and edited volumes.

The scope of the series is international migration research. Topics will include but are not limited to thematic and current issues; comparative research of a regional, national or international nature; the changing character of urban areas in which migrants or refugees settle; the reciprocal influence of migrants/refugees and host communities; as well as policy concerns of both public and private (NGO) stakeholders in migration research.

Each book in the series will be focused rather than eclectic, critical but theoretically and empirically grounded, and comprehensive but succinct. The style of writing will be lucid and clear, avoiding technical jargon and elucidating debates and research evidence.  The books will follow a general format: introducing the current theoretical and policy debates in a selected topic, presenting key findings on the subject, and drawing conclusions and implications based on careful analysis of data. The edited volumes will introduce a well-defined theme and have chapters that follow the introduction to provide coherence to the volume.

The length of each book will be around 200 to 250 printed pages or 110,000 to 138,000 words (that is, 400-500 typewritten double-spaced pages), including endnotes, references, tables and charts.

Interested authors are requested to submit an initial book proposal (about 1,000 words in length) for consideration by the editors, after which a more detailed book proposal may be requested. Following submission of a more detailed book proposal, potential contributors to this book series may be offered a contract by the publisher, specifying the details of mutual obligations and expectations. After signing a contract with Springer, it is expected that the potential contributor will submit the final manuscript within the ensuing 9-12 months.

The author’s final submission, a book-length manuscript, will be peer reviewed.  Acceptance of the manuscript will be based on favourable reports by the peer reviewers; on original contributions in novel empirical or synthesizing research; as well as on theoretical and policy development.
