European Migration Network (EMN)
10th Anniversary Seminar
A Longitudinal Look at Migration
- Global, European and National Views
Welcome to the annual seminar of the European Migration Network National Contact Point for Finland on the 26th of September 2017.
The registration opens at 08:00 and the seminar ends at 16:00.
The venue is Hotel Presidentti Auditorium located at Eteläinen rautatienkatu 4, 00100 Helsinki
Our event this year is an anniversary seminar, as it is the 10th national EMN seminar in Finland. It is also one of the Suomi-Finland 100-events that celebrate 100 years of Finnish independence. Migration issues might never have been as topical as they currently are. Previously the themes of our EMN-seminars have focused on the topic of a study that we have produced that year. This time we would like to celebrate these anniversaries by offering a longitudinal look at migration. The opening words of the seminar are given by Ms. Päivi Nerg, chief of staff at the Ministry of the Interior followed by talks on migration and Finland by researcher Antero Leitzinger and director Tuomas Martikainen. Professor Philippe de Bruycker presents the European perspective on migration. Ms. Yonca Ermutlu will share her personal experiences from a migrant’s perspective accompanied by members of the Kassandra choir while journalist Rauli Virtanen gives a talk on ethical migration journalism.
The seminar will end with a panel discussion moderated by journalist Rauli Virtanen. The discussion will focus on the state of migration in Finland and the role of public debate regarding this issue.
